The Ugly Stage

Little chicks are so cute but these fuzz balls grow into ugly adolescents.

 Of the eight we purchased, seven are mostly reds.

And then there is "alfie", so named because if there can be an alpha hen she is it. Always sitting on top of the waterer, she is the first one to "ask" to be picked up.  

Mr. Benson was reaching down to put food in their feeder and Alfie took the opportunity to find a new perch.  From my arm to his head - spunky lady. 

It's Coming

Despite the ground hog and what everyone feels, spring really IS just around the corner. Todays wind will surely blow all this snow away. Doug and James are working in one of the greenhouses - raking and cleaning and getting ready to start some seeds next week. I hope to get some lettuces started so I can have some fresh picked "organically - grown" greens for dinner.
